Conversation with 2020 scholarship recipient, Mikayla Bernhard

I recently had the pleasure of speaking with the 2020 recipient of the Matthew Cunningham Memorial Scholarship, Mikayla Bernhard, to hear about her plans for the future and how the scholarship helped support her environmental science related pursuits.

Mikayla graduated from Butler High School in 2020 and is a senior at the University of Pittsburgh.  She graduates this May and already has a position lined up at Mitsubishi Electric in Pittsburgh, to work in the field of sustainable energy. During her time at Pitt, she worked in internships at Redzone Robotics, working on sustainable waste water systems and also at Westinghouse designing an app for one of their sustainable energy programs.

Mikayla told me that the scholarship paid for all of her required textbooks and software and took the stress of this cost off of her shoulders.  It even helped pay for extra books that enabled her to do additional studying for her classes.

Congratulations to Mikayla and best of luck in her future endeavors!  Her future in sustainability is bright.

Thank you to the ongoing generosity of the scholarship donors for helping to keep Matthew’s legacy alive.
